In March 2005, many of the parents of Station Camp High School students, as well as some interested
community leaders in the area, had the occasion to benefit from an interview with one of the
representatives of an accreditation agency. During the course of the dialogue, the parents/leaders
were surprised to learn that despite the relatively high marks that SCHS was achieving on their test
scores, the school was seriously lacking in some of the non-curricular assets that appear to be paramount
to the ultimate success of not only the students, but ultimately to school and the community.
With that preface, the interested parties wanted to help, not in the traditional sense of a PTA or
PTO, but in a form and manner where objectives could be more narrowly focused and hopefully
make more of an immediate difference. Meetings, which included the interested parents and leaders
as well as the principal of SCHS, were held initially to determine if the needs perceived by the
parents were in reality as acute as they appeared. It became obvious to all that there were indeed some
relatively urgent needs, and it was agreed that a "Foundation" might be the best forum from which
to launch an effort to fill these needs.
