The Station Camp High School Army JROTC “Bison Battalion” was established in 2005 and currently has 134 cadets (students). We are an accredited four-year program with the mission of motivating them to become better students and citizens.
We are proud to be an inclusive organization, open to all students, that is sponsored by the US Army and the Sumner County School Board. Freshmen who join JROTC incur a one-year (two-semester) commitment in order to earn their wellness credit.
Any other student can join for just one semester, however, JROTC must be completed sequentially, from level 1through 4.
Curriculum
Students spend Monday and Tuesday of each week, learning from an exciting approved curriculum designed by the US Army. Below is a list of some of the subjects they will learn:
Leadership, followership, Citizenship, Geography, Health, Written and Oral Communication Skills, Cultural Diversity, Self Awareness and Discipline, Thinking and Decision Making, U.S. History, and Working with Others
As you can see, regardless of your student’s future plans, i.e. college, vo-tech, work, or the military, JROTC has a lot to teach anyone.
Students will participate in Physical Fitness Training (PFT) on Wednesday and Friday of each week. PFT is designed to be fun and challenging for the cadets. Our goal is to find a ay to motivate cadets to make healthy lifestyle choices that will serve them well the rest of their life.
Each semester cadets will complete the Cadet Challenge physical fitness activities and are able to earn the Presidential Fitness Award.
We do this by challenging them to do their best in a well rounded physical fitness program. In addition students who successfully complete two semesters of JROTC receive their Wellness credit for graduation.
Uniform Inspection and Haircut Policy
All JROTC students are issued the same dress uniform worn proudly by the US Army, at no cost. This uniform must be worn by cadets each week to school on Thursday. In addition cadets are inspected in this uniform weekly. Failure to wear this uniform weekly will result in the cadet failing JROTC.
In addition, cadets are required to ensure they have a haircut that meets JROTC standards while wearing the uniform. Summary of the JROTC haircut policy:
Males: Hair will be neatly groomed. The length and bulk of hair will not be excessive or present a ragged, unkempt, or extreme appearance. Hair will not fall over the eyebrows or ears, or extend below the top edge of the collar. No extreme hair colors (purple, green, fire-engine red, etc.).
Females: Hairstyles will not interfere will proper wearing of military headgear. Beads are not authorized. Hair will not fall over the eyebrows or extend below the bottom edge of the collar at any time during normal activity or when standing in formation. Long hair that falls naturally below the edge of the collar, to include braids, will be neatly and inconspicuously fastened or pinned, so no free-hanging hair is not visible on the collar.
JROTC Extracurricular Activity Team
JROTC offers several extracurricular activities to fully engage any JROTC cadet; these include the school Color Guard, a Drill and Ceremonies (military marching) team, and a Raider team. These teams are open to all cadets who show a willingness to learn and our committed to our practice schedule.
One of the best parts of being a member of JROTC is you are able to participate and become a member of one, or all of our activity teams. We currently offer the following activity teams:
Color Guard: The Color Guard has the honor of posting the National Colors and school Flag before school sporting events and major events. In addition, the Color Guard competes against other JROTC programs at Drill competitions.
Raider Team: The Raider Team competes in Physical Fitness and Challenging Confidence Building competitions against other JROTC programs. If you’re the kind of cadet who wants to get and stay in the best shape possible, Raider team is for you!
Drill and Ceremonies Team: The drill team trains for competitions against other JROTC programs. If you like marching and want to learn precision military drill, the drill team would like to have you as a member.
